List of Famous Vegetarian Athletes

Martina Navratilova one of the greatest female tennis players of all time was a vegetarian for most of her career. She still holds many tennis records today.

Joe Namath a legendary quarterback is probably the most famous NFL vegetarian. He is a member of the NFL hall of fame.

Robert Parish, over 7 feet tall, was one of the best NBA basketball players in history, he played for the Celtics with Larry Bird and was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2003.

Dave Scott is a six time Iron Man champion. The Iron Man competition includes a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26 mile run, and is considered one of the most strenuous athletic competitions in the world.

Billie Jean King a long time vegetarian and famous tennis athlete.

Carl Lewis is considered by some to be the greatest athlete ever. Carl won 10 Olympic Gold medals, and adopted a vegan diet, no dairy products, prior to the 1991 world championship. He said of those championships, that he had the best track meet of his life.

Edwin Moses, two time Olympic 400m hurdles gold medalist had one of the most incredible winning streaks in history, 122 races between 1977 and 1987. He also broke four world records during that time.

Bode Miller of the US won five Olympic skiing medals including the gold in 2010. He was raised on an organic farm.

Paavo Nurmi is considered by many to be one of the greatest distance runners in history. He won nine gold medals. His nickname was the "flying finn".

Lizzie Armistead won the silver medal at the recent olympic games in the 87 mile cycling race.
